German scientists have created a new cure for diabetes

Specialists from Munich (Germany) were able to create a more effective method to combat diabetes. The results of their research are published in the latest issue of the journal Science Translational Medicine.

Matthias Chep, head of the Helmholtz Center for Diabetes and Overweight Research at the Helmholtz Center, said that this is primarily about type 2 diabetes, which is usually observed in people suffering from obesity, as well as those over the age of 40 years.

According to doctors, the most effective method is incretin therapy. The hormones gastro-inhibiting polypeptide (HIP) and glucagon-like polypeptide-1 (GLP-1) are suitable for the manufacture of the required drugs. Until recently, only GLP-1 was used, but today scientists were able to find the opportunity to develop drugs based on the ISU.

Initially, the new drug was tested on monkeys, rats and mice. After teaming up with American colleagues by German scientists, a study was conducted on 53 volunteers with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. The data obtained testified to the effectiveness of the new technique, especially in comparison with other treatment methods. In addition, a developed medicine can help in the fight against overweight.

“We are satisfied with the results of our studies, although our scheme is not a panacea. I do not believe that there is one single drug for the treatment of all forms of diabetes. It is not that for each patient, for each species, an individual approach is necessary. Therefore, our team is now developing a series of drugs based on GLP-1 and GUI, in order to achieve a greater effect in the fight against this disease, ”said the head of the study, Matthias Chep. Scientists believe that this new drug will improve glucose control and reduce body weight.
