To begin with, it should be noted that saliva is, in a sense, the body’s own antiseptic that is involved in many internal processes. It helps to chew, swallow and digest food, envelops the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and digestive organs, prevents bacteria from spreading, and cleanses the oral cavity. With insufficient production of saliva, dryness is felt, which can lead to undesirable consequences.

There can be many risk factors for the appearance of unpleasant dryness in the oral cavity. We list only a few:

The main reason for the violation of salivation is taking antibiotics or conducting therapeutic therapies that include the use of antidepressants, diuretics, antiallergenic drugs, drugs for nausea, asthma, epilepsy, and some other drugs. If in the course of treatment there was a dry mouth how to deal with that you do not need to contact your doctor for the appointment of substitute drugs with similar effects.

Violation of the cover or work of nerves due to injuries, surgical intervention.

· Serious diseases – anemia, stroke, mumps, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, Alzheimer’s disease, Schergen syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, AIDS.

· The presence of stones in the salivary glands. The patient can feel this by unpleasant sensations or slight pain during swallowing.

·Bad habits. Tobacco and alcohol dry the oral cavity – this is an axiom. Therefore, it is recommended to stop smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages, as they increase the feeling of dry mouth.

Frequent causes of dry mouth , which can be combated in this case without any special treatment, are dehydration, heat, blood loss, burns, sun or heat shock, and high temperature.

Ways to eliminate an unpleasant condition

Signs of dysfunction of the salivary glands include:

– intense thirst;

– discomfort during chewing and swallowing food;

– bad breath;

– cracks on the lips.

If a constant dry mouth is supplemented by a feeling of stickiness and the appearance of plaque – these are the first symptoms of the inflammatory process. It is necessary to deal with such symptoms and as soon as possible.

The easiest way to “treat” is to increase your fluid intake. This will help moisturize your mouth. If there is no liquid, you can use candy or chewing gum. However, do not forget about sugar in drinks and sweets, the consumption of which should be limited.

Note also that these methods will help relieve the unpleasant symptoms of dryness, but in no way eliminate the cause of its appearance. It is possible to get rid of dry mouth only with the help of special medications that contribute to the abundant release of saliva and the restoration of the functions of the oral mucosa.

To alleviate the condition, otolaryngologists recommend using fluoride-containing products or mouth rinses, and installing household devices for humidifying the air in the room. You can also rinse your mouth with decoctions of certain medicinal herbs, which you can easily purchase at any pharmacy.

Similar procedures are carried out 3 times a day, after eating. To get rid of dry mouth as soon as possible, it is advisable to always breathe through your nose, regardless of what you are currently doing.
